The Gallery is an educational charity which promotes the best contemporary art, craft and design from Britain and abroad and supports artists working in Suffolk . It achieves this through exhibitions, the Craft Shop, projects with artists, publications and educational and marketing activities. Little Deaths and Bad Thoughts

The short films of Suffolk-based artist Alex Pearl have a tendency to explore the darker side of human existence through the witty characters and amusing situations he creates. His continuing series of ‘Little Deaths’ transform familiar objects into black comedy sketches portraying spa cover unfortunate and often tragic circumstances, whilst taste and decency will be brought into question through humorous observations in his new ‘Bad Thoughts’ works. Alex’s work can be seen at Hide Bar & Kitchen, Whiting Street, Bury St Edmunds between 11 and 27 May and as part of the Joking Aside exhibition at the Art Gallery.
Children from green smoke St Louis’ Middle School will be working with Alex and making their own ‘Bad pro flight simulator Thoughts’ films during the Festival Residency. You can see the results in the Art Gallery’s Art Lounge from 22 May; alternatively, pick up your own DVD to take home!

Established in 1996 Life Insurance Quotes as The Cheltenham Open Drawing Exhibition and renamed The hcg drops Jerwood Drawing Prize in 2001 when the Jerwood Charitable Foundation became the principle sponsor, this annual exhibition has consistently identified talent and excellence in the field Bins of contemporary drawing. Both collectively and individually these works clearly demonstrate innovation, diversity and Hire Gowns progression; they contribute to debate about what drawing is and play an important part in the redefinition of the medium and its boundaries.
The Jerwood Drawing Prize car finance 2006 includes both established and emergent artists selected for exhibition by artist Jason Brooks, Yvonne Crossley, Director of The Drawing Gallery in London, hot tub covers and Paul Thomas, artist and co-founder of The Jerwood Drawing Prize. The project is delivered through the working partnership of Wimbledon College of Art and the Jerwood Charitable Foundation.

Following the success of last year’s Suffolk Showcase and the collaboration with Bury St Edmunds Art Society, we are delighted to continue the partnership. The return of this annual open submission exhibition is an opportunity for all Suffolk-based artists and makers, aged 16 years and over, to submit work for a public exhibition of the highest quality at venue hire brisbane the Gallery.

arttextiles 2 was the second major survey of contemporary, investigative work in this rapidly developing area of visual art. Here, textiles does not imply a medium but a site for discursive practice, where cultural, social, personal, historical and aesthetic concerns intersect.
Twenty-three selected artists pushed the language of electronic cigarette textiles beyond use or tasteful decoration to pose questions DUI Attorneys on a range of issues: the virtual and the real; Englishness; the environment; aesthetic categories; subjectivities. The selection was cross-generational, office chairs on sale with recent graduates shown alongside established practitioners such as Jerwood Prize-winner, Caroline Broadhead.
The work was part of a growing tendency in visual art to conceptualise through process and materiality. These artists occupy led tv reviews the same territory as Yinka Shonibare and Turner Prize shortlisted Michael Raedecker. The work refuted the prejudice that artisan and intellectual are incompatible as artists juxtaposed the made and readymade. Critic Pamela Johnson wrote in her catalogue essay: ‘making continues to be important, but in the expanded forms of un-making, re-making, making connections’.
Selection, from an original submission of over 400, was made by an internationally respected panel: artists Yinka Shonibare and Polly Binns; Professor Sarat Maharaj of Goldsmiths’ College; Gill Hedley, Director, Contemporary Art Society. They were impressed by the level of risk-taking and original thinking which ranged across contemporary preoccupations. Yinka Shonibare: ‘there are issues of class, of Norfolk Island holidays kitsch and taste…’ Professor Sarat Maharaj: ‘…we instant payday loans don’t see the intellectual here as k2 incense something floating about above the business of making… they buy electronic cigarette intersect in an electric way’.

While Stations was firmly rooted binary options in liturgy and demonstrated the power of visual images in churches this Gallery exhibition explored the human search for a spiritual and moral lead and the factors that enable or cause people to lead extraordinary lives.

The artists in An Exemplary Life explored the theme in very different ways using a variety of media. Oliver Barratt’s set of stations used a consistent torso to trace african mango the marks made by Christ’s last journey but which also alluded to countless other incidents of human cruelty and suffering. Ian Breakwell’s work for the exhibition revealed his admiration of Thelonius Monk, an obsessive and innovative artist. Nina Pope and Karen Guthrie’s project Broadcast, was inspired by the Canterbury Tales and encouraged the contemporary participants to undertake their own pilgrimages. Many of the ‘pilgrims’ chose to visit an ‘exemplar’ and their journeys were documented for this show. Other exhibition artists included Katrine Herian, Cedric Christie and Edwina financial assistance for single mothers Leapman.
